Back in my day

There have been many times in my life when referencing age and experience caused eye-rolling. Whether from my kids or myself toward my own parents, it feels like a rite of passage. That being said, here are a few things I wish were still present in our modern era.

Back in my day…

  • We looked up from what we were staring at to become engaged in a conversation.

  • We viewed screentime as a privilege, not an obligation.

  • We spoke to each other in earnest and not guardedly.

  • We thought racism was declining, not increasing.

  • We talked through our problems, not yelled to have our voices heard.

  • We had faith that those in power always held our best interests at heart.

  • We could settle disagreements with dialogue, not expeditions.

  • Our faith held us together, not pushed us apart.

  • We recognized the value of differing opinions and listened to them.

  • We expected a neutral perspective from those who informed us of events in the world.

  • Our heroes did heroic things, not pandered for viewership.

  • We trusted those in power to always tell the truth and not skew it.

  • We respected each other wholly and unconditionally.

Hopefully, we can find our way back to our day, or the list will only get larger, and the eye rolls will be much more dramatic.
